1974 Suzuki TC125 Prospector

The Suzuki TC125 is a really cool little bike. I bought this as a project to fix up but decided to sell it because I have too much going on in the garage right now.

Suzuki made this bike in a number of different sizes and gave them all interesting names like “Prospector”. I am blanking on the other models, but I believe it was a TC100, a TC125, a TC185, and a TC250.

These bikes are very cool, great little reliable 2 smokers that pump out a reasonable 13 horsepower. They are extremely easy to work on, get great gas mileage, and they are even able to cruise at highway speeds. This TC 125 has an 8 speed gearbox. It’s actually a standard 4 speed transmission with a reduction gear which can be put into use to create a High and a Low operating range. It’s designed that way to match the demands of both off-road and highway use.

Really, the only downsides to this bike are that it uses a 6 volt electrical system. The perfect bike for running errands and cruising around back roads and trails. I love it.

  2. Hey I have one of these bikes that I had when I was 14 (27 now) it has been sitting in the garage this whole time and I have decided to pull it out and get it going again. Do you happen to have the manual or suggestion where to get a manual for it? thanks.

  3. i just bought one of these bikes and am looking forward to getting it running. right now i’m having trouble with the spark plug. the bike is not putting enough power to make the plug actually spark. It has a batery on the bike and i was wondering if the battery has to have a full charge to start the bike?

  4. Hi Ryan – The TC125 does not require a battery to run. The battery is used as a ballast for the lights.

If the plug isn’t sparking then you’re going to need to run some checks on your coil and magneto. Make sure your plug is new!

You can run a 3.50 width tire without issue. A metric 80/100 or 90/100 tire should also be fine. I know Cheng Shin has at least a couple options available. I typically buy my tires at TiresUnlimited.com – but there are many other good sources in the links on the right.

  8. Santa brought me a 1975 Prospector for Christmas. It was a great bike for my paper route and the logging trails in Alabama. I wrecked it countless times (minor) and still have the pavement nick’s on my legs and arms. A great bike! Sold it and used the cash to buy my first car.

  13. I had one of these in high school. Had a 2 stroke oil reservoir which sure made it easy to own. Wasnt a fan of the high/low trans but I drove the tires of it and it got me around. Many great memories………
