I am looking for an ignition switch for a 1978cx500. I tried e-bay, parts stores etc…. Do you know if one from another model (450, 550,650…..) will match?

You won’t find one that bolts right up unless it’s from another CX – however, you could easily make any other ignition work, or a universal one from one of the parts sellers listed on my site.
Most older motorcycle ignitions just have a few wires coming out the back – as long as you crimp them to the correct ones on your bike you don’t need to have a matching pigtail, then just bolt the ignition anywhere you can find space. It’s a lot simpler than it may sound.
